ASSEMBLY is ONLINE THIS MONTH

We all hope we are all staying healthy and away from CV-19.
What follows is our regular letter with what we intended to do and our Presidents letter and upcoming plans.

APRIL is: Earth Month. Earth is our home. How can we save it?

MONTHLY ASSEMBLY PRESENTATION: Online on FACEBOOK LIVE.
SATURDAY APRIL 11th at 6:30 pm. The reason it’s on Facebook is that we have 218 friends in our private group. And, while we have 172 email subscribers, the open rate of this newsletter is only about 30% and that’s only 50 some, so we have a much better chance to have a bigger audience and attract those 200+ that are not yet members of the chapter. It will be shown on our HWF PG or private group page so you need to be following it to watch. As we learn how to do these we will put out more info on ways to participate, we hope. so see you then.

PRESENTATION: Member Mark Robinson will speak on the history and future of energy production and it’s effect upon our planet, and his thoughts on the better and safer ways to produce the energy we need.

The Mission of HWF
The Mission of the Humanists of West Florida is to facilitate the advancement of humanist thought and action in Pensacola and surrounding areas by interconnecting groups of humanists, atheists, agnostics and non-religious.
We will strive for equal participation in government and societal life through building strategic partnerships with other humanist and freethought organizations and with our religious neighbors to advance the greater good of humanity.

PRESIDENTS LETTER: From The Desk of the President:

Greetings! Humanists of West Florida,
I trust that all are safe and well. If any member needs special assistance during the COVID quarantine call us at 850 366 3410. Within guidelines set by the BOD, we will help whenever possible. March’s Assembly was cancelled due to COVID precautions and April’s will not be held either. We expect to return to our regular schedule in May. Look for some added festivities too. HWF conducted a fundraising event for Tom Nielsen, music journalist, on March 13th. Deemed a success, as HWFs very first closed live streamed event, we were able to help our longtime friend, Tom, defer expenses he incurred when a benefit for a local environmental group was cancelled after Tom was already enroute. Thanks to all who helped. Upcoming in May: Wed May 6th Open Books 1040 N Guillemard Book packing 6 until 8 PM. We seeking someone to provide snacks for 8-12 crew members. Call us to volunteer food. Sat May 9 1030 AM Assembly. Ever’mans Education Center 350 W Garden St Topic TBA All other activities TBA
Sincerely, Betty Myers, President

BOARD OF DIRECTORS:
The board’s quarterly meeting will be online this period on Sat. morning April 11.
Any questions or issues please reply to–secretary@hwfl.org

The period of applications to fill a board seat ended March 31st. Each year there are 3 seats that open up. The members holding those seats for the last 2 years are Betty Myers, Laurie Webre, and Mark Robinson. All three of them agreed to re-up for another 2 years. Since we have not had any other application their will again be no election for the spots on the board. Beginning July 1 the three will be sworn in by the existing members which are the Nominating Committee. Thank you to you three that have renewed your directorship.

SATOSHI FOREST TREES:
What a great project to finally have done. Thank you so much to Panhandle Growers for donating $3000 of 50 trees, and Larry Downs Jr. Plmbg. for the backhoe tractor, and Dan Clark Excavating for the 36″ auger, and Buz Ryland, Mark Robinson, Vince Lauria, the shovelers, and Roy Skinner, Betty Myers, Sedona Strong, and Muffie Ryland for their spiritful support. Michael Kimberl is hugely grateful.

A COVID-19 IDEA: There a some of us in this chapter that do not need the $1200 “a large in everyones pocket” (think FDRs- a chicken in every pot) and so we, Muffie and I will be donating a portion of the largess to local charity. It could be a food bank, or a hospital, or the EMT service, or HWFs’ Assist a Member Fund, or Satoshi Forest. You get the idea. Satoshi Forest Homeless Camp had been one of this chapters ongoing support projects, so here is there address: Satoshi Forest, 1999 Massachusetts Ave., Pensacola, FL 32505.
